How to print a canvas

Choose your photo

The key to a perfect canvas

The first and most important step is to find the perfect photo. This can be a portrait, landscape, a candid shot, or any other image you desire. Look through your saved albums and pick out the ones that evoke strong emotion in you. Once you’ve narrowed it down, take a look at where you plan to hang your photo, have a think as to which photo best suits your room style.

Focus and composition

When choosing a photo for your canvas print project, be sure to pick one that really stands out and has an interesting composition. Try to find original photos, rather than photos shared on social media. You can turn virtually any digital photo or artwork into a vibrant, high quality canvas. The key to creating a stunning canvas print is choosing the right image. Look for an image that is high resolution and free of distortions. Pictures that have good light are alway best, however don't be overly concerned, we will always endeavour to print any image at its best, adjusting lightness if necessary.

How to print a canvas

  1. Select a shape

After you’ve chosen the perfect image for your canvas print, it’s time to pick out a style and size to create a unique canvas print. Measure your wall space and decide on the ideal dimensions for you.

There are four different types of shape for canvas prints; panoramic, squares, A sizes and a specially crafted selection of standard photography sizes, designed to exactly match your phone or camera with minimal cropping.

  1. Crop or Reposition (optional)

    Adjust the print area

If the subject of your photo is not the main focus of the image, our website will allow you to crop it so that the main focus stands out. You can move the positioning of the crop by simply dragging the box within the image. Alternatively, grab any corner and re-size or reposition. If you are planning to wrap you photo over the edge of the canvas frame, then it is best to leave additional space around the main subject. With the mirror or plain canvas framing options, then all of the cropped area will remain on the front of the canvas print.

    Rotate crop box

You can rotate the crop box by 90° if you wish to print a portrait section of a landscape image or vice versa.

    Rotate image

You can rotate the picture itself if your photo has been taken sideways or upside down.

    Click the 'Confirm Crop' button.

  1. Select Frame Style

All of our canvas prints are hand-stretched using gallery style (38mm deep) redwood pine that has been ethically produced from managed woodland.

For a professional finish, it's important to select the appropriate edge framing style to ensure your picture is well displayed on the front of the canvas, there are three styles of canvas wrap:

  • Mirror picture on frame sides

The photo is reflected over the sides of the frame. This means that the complete picture will be on the front of the canvas print, however the entire frame is still covered with image (default).

  • Wrap picture over frame sides

The photo is extended over the sides of the frame. Some of the photo will be lost over the sides. Our frames are 38mm deep so the loss of some of the picture over the sides can be especially evident on small sizes although less relevant with larger sizes.

  • Plain white canvas on sides

The photo is taken to the edge of the front of the frame, with the sides being left as natural white canvas. In the preview this is shown as a light grey in order to make viewing simpler.

Our website preview will show you how each style of framing will look. Be sure to choose one that complements your art piece so you end up with a professional looking piece of artwork that you can be proud to display.
