Choosing the perfect photo

Choosing the perfect photo for your poster is the key to success. Look for a photo that reflects the message you want to convey, but also has personal meaning and ideally good lighting; this ensures that your poster will have an appealing aesthetic. Avoid choosing photos with too many people or objects in them, as these may distract from the message of your poster. Instead, opt for an image with one or two central elements and plenty of negative space. Don't be deterred if your favourite picture does not confirm to these guidelines, we will alway do are best to adjust the lightness of pictures if necessary.

Picture quality

Ideally, posters work best when you are able to ensure that your photo is a high resolution image so that all the details come through in sharp detail when you print it on a poster. Most modern cameras and phones take amazing quality pictures so there is normally no need to worry. The best advice is simply to ensure that you upload the highest quality photo you have available. If we find that your image is not quite good enough for the size ordered, we will be sure to contact you.

Composition

Its alway a good idea to inspect the photo closely to ensure there are no distracting elements in the background or foreground of your composition. If you have several images to choose from you may wish to select based on some simple criteria - try to make sure the focus remains on what you want to communicate with your poster. But always remember, rules are meant to be broken, any photo or impromptu snap you happen to like can make a wonderful poster.

1. Choose your shape

   We offer a wide variety of shape options, whether you prefer A sizes, traditional sizes, trendy squares, or sizes to to fit a breathtaking panoramic photo from a memorable holiday. Your picture can be enlarged for ideal placement within your wall space.

2. Upload a Photo

   Click on the yellow 'Select Your Photo' button and choose the photo you would like to print from your computer, phone or tablet.

   Our photo uploader accepts JPG, PNG, TIFF or PDF.

   A preview of you photo will soon appear.

3. Choose Print Style (for panoramic or standard styles)

   For 'A' sizes or square prints, skip to 'Crop or Reposition'

   For panoramic printing or standard photo sizes, we offer a selection of ratios.

   As you select each style (ratio), a preview of the crop will appear. Choose the style that best suits your photo.

4. Crop or Reposition (optional)

   Crop / Reposition

   Move any of the corners or drag the entire crop box to adjust how your photo will print. Cropping in on the image can often help remove unwanted elements and focus attention on precisely what you want people to see.

   Rotate crop box

   You can rotate the crop box, for example if you wish to print a landscape portion of a portrait image or vice versa.

   Rotate image

   If you have taken a photo sideways or the wrong way up, use this button to rotate the picture itself.

   Click the 'Confirm Crop' button.

5. Choose Print Size

   Select your poster print size from the list of choices.

6. Choose Paper Type

   When you wish to print a high-quality, large photo print, it can be difficult to know what type of paper to select. Here are some hints to help you pick the best one for your project:

   Semi-gloss

   This is by far our most popular choice of paper. Semi-gloss encapsulates the best of both worlds, it offers a reduction in reflectivity whilst still retaining the soft glow of gloss.

   Gloss

   Glossy paper reflects light which can bring out the vibrancy of a photo print. It is ideal for photographs as well as colourful graphic design prints.

   Matte

   Matte paper absorbs reflective light, resulting in less glare and a softer look. It is best used for black and white or neutral colour prints where you don’t want too much contrast or saturation. It can also enhance high resolution landscapes that feature green and blue, helping to bring out the detail of the picture.
